Millennium Development Goals Task Force

 Report to Convention 2008

The Millennium Development Goals Task Force is a group which has as its purpose the promotion of the MDGs through education, advocacy and support of development of MDG ministries throughout the Diocese of Northern California. We are a group of people from around the diocese with a common interest in addressing the issues of Global Poverty. First formed in response to the passing of the MDG Resolution (#R1-06) in 2006, the Task Force became a committee appointed by the Bishop after the passing of the second MDG Resolution (#R1-07 ) in 2007.  This Resolution directs the allocation of 0.7% of the total Diocesan Budget to be used as grants to agencies and projects which address the eight Millennium Development Goals. The funds are to be administered by the appointed MDG Task Force.

In 2008, the amount allotted for grants was $ 15,107. The Grant Application was posted on the diocesan website and announcements were made via the Aurora. Six grant applications were received and reviewed. Decisions were made by consensus after group discussion of each project. In May 2008 the following MDG Grants were awarded.

The Task Force is pleased to report that all projects are proceeding very well. A detailed project report is available at the Convention Millennium Development Goal display and links to each project are found on the Diocesan MDG web pages http://www.dncweb.org  .

In addition to those recognized with grants, there are also many other great projects which support the Millennium Development Goals going on in the Diocese. In collaboration with Episcopalians for Global Reconciliation, the Task Force is currently collecting information about all that is going on with our “Mapping the MDGs” project. Please come by our display or contact us by email (clong@dncweb.org ) to let us know about your congregation’s ministries in the world. We are also seeking new members with an interest in Global Issues.
