Health & Dental Insurance Information

By now all employees who are eligible for health and dental insurance should have received their open enrollment letter from Church Medical Trust.

Employees are eligible for health and dental insurance if they are paid on a salaried basis OR they are hourly and working 20 hours/week or more. These employees must be given the opportunity to enroll in group health and dental insurance. They may waive coverage if they choose. In addition, all employees working 20 hours/week or more must be enrolled in disability and life insurance coverage through the Church Medical Trust.

Employees enrolled in Kaiser must visit the open enrollment website to make an active selection for 2010. The Kaiser High and Low plans have been replaced by Kaiser Mid-Option EPO and Kaiser EPO 80. Both plans are slightly richer than our current Kaiser plans.

If employees are enrolled in CIGNA or the Empire plans and wish to continue the same coverage in 2010, they do not need to do anything. However, it is advisable for them to visit the open enrollment website anyway to review their current coverage and compare it to the alternatives.

It is very important that a dialog take place between employers and employees regarding the share of cost the employer will pay toward health and dental insurance. As of 1/1/10 the Diocese requires that employers pay a minimum of 80% of the lowest cost premium on behalf of their employee. For health insurance this minimum cost share is $409.60 ($512 X 80%) and for dental insurance it is $36.80 ($46 X 80%). This cost share may be prorated for employees working less than 30 hours/week. Employers must pay 100% of disability and life insurance premiums.

Please call Thea Mangels or Bobbi Yeo at (800) 442-6918 if you have any questions about this process.
