Steps Toward Ordained Ministry
DIOCESE OF
I. APPLICATION
- Meet with rector/clergy in charge (may call together small group to assist in discernment of call)
- Rector/clergy in charge and applicant meet with Bishop
- Applicant meets with Parish Commission on Ministry (PCOM)
- PCOM recommendation to Vestry and Rector/CIC
II. NOMINATION
- Application for nomination from Rector/CIC and Vestry
- Bishop approves as Nominee.
- All application materials completed
- Bishop may re-interview
- Invitation extended to attend Discernment Weekend
- Nominee meets with Commission on Ministry (COM) and Standing Committee
- COM and Standing Committee recommend postulancy to Bishop
III.
- Seminary/School for Deacons (or approved track)
IV. CANDIDACY
- Postulant applies for candidacy
- Vestry and Rector/CIC endorse candidacy
- COM interviews applicant and recommends candidacy
- Standing Committee interviews applicant and approves recommendation
- Bishop confers candidacy
V. ORDINATION TO DIACONATE
- Candidate applies for ordination
- Vestry and Rector/CIC endorse ordination
- COM interviews and recommends ordination
- Standing Committee approves recommendation
- Bishop makes decision to ordain to Transitional Diaconate (priests) or Vocational Diaconate (deacons)
VI. ORDINATION TO PRIESTHOOD
- Candidate applies for ordination
- Vestry and Rector/CIC endorse ordination
- COM recommends ordination, usually without an interview
- Standing Committee approves recommendation
- Bishop makes decision to ordain to Priesthood
VII. DEPLOYMENT
