2007 Convention Follow-Up Report...
For some time now, interest and energy around ministries which support the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have been building in our diocese. This was very evident during the convention MDG presentation when people were asked to stand if their congregation is involved in ministries or support of ministries, which promote the 8 goals. The room was filled with standing people! The vote of approval for Resolution R107 signifies that we are ready to put our money where our mouth is.
With the approval of this resolution our diocese joins with other dioceses throughout the Episcopal Church, as well as many other individuals and organizations which are committed to promoting a just and whole world for all. By pledging 0.7% of the budget to go toward MDG ministries we are making a significant impact in the fight against extreme poverty.
And now the update...
This year, in 2008, our diocese continues to be actively involved in MDG ministries and in the support of programs which help to fight extreme global poverty, its causes and its effects. The Millennium Development Goal Task Force is actively working to gather information about all that our churches are doing with the “Mapping the MDGs” project. Six projects received support this year with grants from the 0.7% of our diocesan budget set aside for MDGs . Find out more about these on the MDG Grant Recipients page. |
